The Council Through the Years
In 1913, The "Richmond Area Council" was chartered by John Stewart Bryan and D. W. Durrett, who served as first Council President and Council Commissioner, respectively. In its first year, the council numbered 495 boys in 28 troops, with headquarters in Richmond's old News Leader building.
Today and Tomorrow
The Council is a well-managed, fiscally sound organization. Since the last capital campaign in 1980, the council has experienced 18 consecutive years of membership growth. Despite an increase of 100% in youth enrollment during this period, the council's professional staff increased by only 20% through planning and efficient management. In our next phase of growth, we will continue this efficient pattern.
