Eagle Scouts Joseph Robert Orr and Sami N. Aboulhosn have been selected from across the country to receive $1,000 scholarships provided by the National Eagle Scout Association and the Southern Region Trust Fund Boy Scouts of America.

Over 2,611 Eagle Scout scholarship applications were submitted for different Eagle Scout Scholarship programs.  Joe Orr and Sami Aboulosn's selection represents recognition of their superb record of accomplishments.

Joe is a member of Scout Troop 900 in Prince George, Virginia.  He is a 2006 graduate of Prince George High School.  He also was recently elected for a 2nd term as the Chief of the Nawakwa Lodge of the Order of the Arrow.  Joe plans to attend Longwood University majoring in History.

Sami is a member of Troop 777 in Richmond, Virginia.  He is a 2006 graduate of Maggie Walker Governor's School.  Sami will attend William and Mary this fall majoring in International Relations.

The Eagle Scout Service, under the direction of the Boy Scout Division, National Officer, Boy Scouts of America, selects the winners through a review committee.  This committee also determines the number and size of scholarships to be granted each year to deserving Eagle Scouts graduating from high school.

Besides being a graduating high school senior, applicants must also be currently registered in the Boy Scouts of America, have been granted the Eagle Scout Award prior to submitting the application.  Additionally, each candidate must have demonstrated leadership ability in Scouting and a strong record of participation in activities outside of Scouting, and have the endorsement of a volunteer or professional Scout leader who knows the applicant personally.

One of the nation's largest youth development organizations, the Boy Scouts of America currently has 4.7 million youth members and 1.2 million adult volunteers.
